Meltham is a small town and civil parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, situated in the Holme Valley below Wessenden Moor, some four-and-a-half miles south west from the town centre of Huddersfield. On the edge of the Peak District National Park, Meltham was assessed in the 2011 Census

to have a population of 8,534 and the town is within close reach of several major cities, including Bradford (14 miles), Leeds (19 miles), Manchester (19 miles) and Sheffield (21 miles). The valley has been inhabited since pre-historic times, with two Iron Age sites overlooking the town. Meltham contains three primary schools and is served by a number of local secondary schools. The town also has active teams in a variety of sports, including cricket, football and rugby league.
